[ILL-L] Ariel and Odyssey

I completely agree with Carol Vaeth about not getting rid of Ariel. We are not yet using Odyssey due to some local systems issues, but even after we resolve those problems we will want to have Ariel for borrowing libraries that don't have Odyssey. Ariel definitely is better than fax. In addition, it also offers the option of sending a document as a pdf attachment to an email message. Many of our borrowing patrons strongly prefer that option.

I for one am not willing to give up Ariel yet. We do not receive near as much as before since I prefer to borrow from Odyssey users, but we do still send a bit. I keep Ariel as a service to those borrowing libraries that use it exclusively. It's better than a fax...

One of our IT people has suggested that we consider dropping Ariel and just use Odyssey in ILL along with faxing, PDFs, and mail to cover all borrowing and lending needs. Some of our staff think we still send so much through Ariel that it is essential , and I'm too new at this to know if this is a idea well worth considering. I would love to hear from other ILL people about this idea. Good idea? Bad idea? Impractical idea? All help appreciated!
