[ILL-L] Re-usable bookbands?

We use these bands for *borrowed* materials, not for materials we are
lending out to other libraries. All we do for loaned books we send out
is place a copy of the OCLC printout in the book before we mail it out.

Our laminated bands are placed around books that we borrow from other
libraries. We place the band around the book and then put our labels on
the laminated bands. The labels are printed with the patron's name,
pickup branch location, book title, due date, and item barcode
(temporary). After the book circulates, we remove the band and send it
home.  =)

How do they work if the lending library usually writes info on the
bands? (ILL# for patron checkout) I like the idea, I am just trying to
get my head around it.

That's what we do. Years back, our printshop created hundreds of
laminated bands in various sizes and we've been reusing them ever since.
No velcro, we just use tape.

HI,

As to that, when I still used bands instead of removable labels, I had a
whole set laminated and just attached a label to the front or maybe jsut
included paperwrok. The velcro idea is fantastic. Anyway, I got tons
of repetitive use out of them.

Yes, we borrowed a book from them, too, and the strap is great. Be sure
to share any information you may receive. Thanks!

Subject: [ILL-L] Re-usable bookbands?

Hi everyone-

I just subscribed to this listserv in hopes of tracking down something
that came our way recently. The National Library of Australia sent us
an ILL book that had a pre-printed vinyl book band in place of a paper
strap or a sticker. The band had velcro on the ends to secure it to the
book. It worked quite well and I wanted to look into getting something
similar for
our ILL. It would save paper, writing etc. The problem is I've only
found
a manufacturer - you guessed it - in Australia.

http://www.preview.com.au/stationery-products/library-book-straps.php

Does anyone use these or has anyone seen these anywhere? I'm sure I
could get something custom made but thought for sure someone in the US
has thought of this already.

Thanks-
Alison
