[ILL-L] RE: SOLINET Versus SoLINE

There's a large university in Georgia that's a SOLINE library that
sometimes conditionalizes saying we have to pay for book loans and
sometimes doesn't.  We too are SL#N and SIXX.  It's always been a head
scratcher.  I don't know why it's happening; I keep imagining request
going to this library and the staff there either flipping a coin or
consulting a Magic Eight Ball to decide which requests they'll fill and
which ones they won't.    Fortunately, we've been able to get what we
need from other sources, but I've asked my staff to alert me the next
time it happens. I'll investigate it further and share what I find out
with SOLINET.

Many thanks; this clarifies things, especially the difference between
SOLINET and SOLINE.  I'm still not sure why a library listed as SL#N in
the Policy Directory told me I'd have to pay them for book loans (not
copies), even though I stated in my e-mail that we were SL#N and SO6;
but maybe they were even more confused than I was.

Thanks also to everyone else who e-mailed me--I greatly appreciate the
help.

SOLINET is the OCLC provider.

Soline (SL#N) is the resource sharing agreement that is for free loans
among participating SOLINET libraries (and now also for Indiana
libraries if they wish to join).

If you want to get free loans from Soline (SL#N) libraries, you need to
join the SoLine agreement.

Keep in mind that SOLINET libraries are NOT always Soline (SL#N)
libraries. For instance, neither Duke University nor the University of
North Carolina are Soline libraries.

In short, SOLINET is NOT equal to Soline (SL#N).
