As to keeping paper records, most of the time, if there is an electronic equivalent, it is acceptable to get rid of the paper ones.

The CONTU guidelines require that you, as a borrower, keep the current calendar year plus the previous 3 calendar years of  filled copy requests.

HOWEVER, be sure to check your local and state laws as to records retention, which may differ. For instance, I have to keep the current FISCAL year (which begins in October) plus the previous 3 fiscal years of most of my records.
