[ILL-L] Green interlibrary loan practices?

We re-use all of our packaging materials (except Jiffy Bags).  When
packaging is too decrepit to reuse we recycle as much as possible (cardboard
and plastics).  I've switched to using scrap paper from abandoned student
print jobs to do almost all of my printing.  We also only use white paper so
that when we purge files it can easily be recycled.  We've managed to
decrease our paper usage drastically - we use 1 page for borrowing requests
and 1.5 pages for lending requests.  I'd like to move to an entirely
electronic record keeping system but haven't figured out the logistics of
that yet.  Nearly all of our article copy requests are filled and delivered
electronically.

We also prioritize lenders by proximity (in state, bordering states and then
regional).  Rarely do we have to go out of our state to get an item.  This
took a little setting up in Custom Holdings but it really flows now.  We've
also joined a borrowing consortium so that we can pool funding for more
electronic resources.

Hello, I am working on an article that has a section on "green"
practices in interlibrary loan.  I am looking at things like re-using
packaging, cutting down on amount of paper used, recycling, etc.

Anyone have ideas that they'd be willing to share about how you've cut down
on waste and moved towards more sustainable practices in your ILL
departments?
