[ILL-L] No renewals - please put on paperwork or in lending notes

JPL has a "Sorry, No Renewals!" note on the Lending Label on the book (and it's highlighted), on the paperwork, in our policy statement, and in constant data. I don't know where else I can note it; I think I've covered all the bases. Our 60 day lending period is the same as the Library of Congress, Despite all this, we get requests for renewal several times a day- often for books that are a month or more overdue or for books that aren't due for a month or more. Getting those renewal requests are one of my pet peeves.
I concur with the poster who complained about libraries that said no renewals but granted renewals when the customer called them to ask. We've had that happen with a local library whose book we borrowed for the customer and the book was very overdue to boot; I called them about it and they said that they were "just doing it to be nice" but said they wouldn't do it again. We've also had other libraries' customers call us asking for renewals, saying that their libraries told them to. And we've had other libraries' customers call and ask about the status of requests -or to yell at us because their libraries said we didn't fill the requests- only to find out that their libraries didn't send the requests to us. Finally, I had a customer call who wanted to know why her library only gave her 2 weeks with an ILL book- when she found out when she looked underneath her library's label or band- she say that the book wasn't due until much later. While I can understand the frustration library staff members have with customers who call to complain and the temptation to blame it all on the mean ole library who only gave so much time with the book, wouldn't renew the book, wanted to bill for the book that came back to the owning library wet and mildewed, etc. : is this really being a good ILL partner? Would you want this to happen to you? I don't think so.

This is a totally valid request and/or expectation. When we checkout ILL items to our patrons, a slip is included with the due date and whether a renewal is possible or not allowed. If a renewal is not allowed, they can plan and make sure they finish the book on time. Any kind of information like due dates, renewal options, or return instructions should be obvious. We don't have the time to look this info up on the computer for every ILL item

I have to bring up a pet peeve. I received a book from a lender, and when I checked it as I processed it in, I found no mention of No Renewals on the paperwork or in the lending notes field. But when I checked the Policies Directory as I was about to request a renewal (to see how long the renewal period was), I found No Renewals. It seems to me this information should be included in the paperwork or lending notes. It doesn't seem reasonable to expect us to check the Policies Record on every single transaction. I now have to tell my patron, oops, no you CAN'T renew it. Am I being unrealistic?
