We don't borrow text books or required readings -- at least those we know about. We also don't purchase them for the collection.

If the instructor doesn't make students purchase the books (usually optional readings or a choice of one of multiple books), we will buy multiple copies, put them on reserve, and give students one/two week use. So far, we've done this only once. We bought three copies of five books for a class on psychology.

In accordance with the ILL standard practice of one borrower/one use, we never put any ILL loans on reserve.

I don't think copyright comes into it -- unless you are ILLing photocopies instead of books.

I would like to hear people's perception of borrowing multiple copies of a fiction title for an academic course.
Do some people practice this?
What about copyright concerns?
Thanks,
Trish
