I honestly have never understood this.  Not saying I don't know it's 
a common occurrence, but  WHO exactly do they think will loan out 
materials if everyone treats lending as having no benefit?  What if 
we all decided to axe lending and only do borrowing?  Good 
grief.  It's kind of a required element.  Reciprocity, and all 
that.  I can say that personally, I tend to go more to libraries that 
provide us excellent service (let that be a lesson to you - if you 
want to reduce your incoming lending, provide crappy service! ;-)), 
and we try to do the same, provide excellent lending service.  I 
impress it upon my boss and our administration that that is the only 
way WE will receive excellent service.

Just irks me when I hear this, though I do know that we get all sorts 
of grief from a few folks out here when our lending fill rate seems 
low to them.  It just comes from not really having a clue about how 
ILL actually works, when you come down to it.
