[ILL-L] return address labels

The lack of return labels has been an issue for me for years. The lack of a label caused us to have to stop processing returning books and go look up Library X in the policy directory--where some addresses are STILL not filled out. Then we had to Google the offenders and hope their webpage has what we need so we can get back to work.

I understand that sometimes it's easy to forget a label if you're slammed sending books out. That's when including your complete street address (Not Library Z, City, State, Zip Code) in the Constant Data is helpful. It will print on the 'shipped' paperwork and be right there for the borrower. Or amending your ILLIAD/CLIO/etc. system to print it on the search stacks slips is also a WONDERFUL idea. It doesn't take long to amend the template, and libraries without software will be singing praises to your name for your kindness.

We recently went live with ILLIAD lending and have put our address in our CD, in the Policy Directory entry, on our bookstraps, and for now we will still include labels until we use up our current supply. We plan to remember this issue and make it easy for libraries to return our stuff. After all, we do want it back! :)

I am also finding that fewer libraries are including a return address
label. Why have some libraries stopped sending them? This morning I
returned five books and had to make a label for each one. This is time
consuming. I like it when libraries include a return address label.
What do others think?

I only receive return address labels with a few of the books that we
borrow, and bookstraps frequently do not include either a symbol or a
return address for the lending institution (and typically the paperwork
does). Also, the paperwork helps me keep track of the books that we
currently have out. I would vote not to get rid of it.
