When you find out how to do this, please share the information with me.
We post representative copies of thank-you slips we get from other
libraries so that visiting JPL staffs get some small idea of how many
libraries are impacted by their contributions to resource sharing. But
we're running out of room on cubicles and getting a bulletin board for
this does not seem to be in the cards. While we're not supposed to affix
anything to the walls (the building is still newish), having a map would
be wonderful. I could enlarge it and take it to meetings. I tried
doing one of these by hand last year - drawing red lines from
Jacksonville to libraries we lend to, but stopped when the Southeastern
US started to hemorrhage heavily. Georgia in particular looked like it
was not long for the world. Florida was a sea of red. <shudder>

Subject: [ILL-L] ILL map - version 2.008
At this time last year I posted a message about creating an ILL map,
with dots representing libraries that loaned to us, and to whom we
loaned through the year. It was something I had done at 3 other
libraries, and it provided to be a valuable publicity/promotion
activity. It also added color to an office with all white walls.
In 2008, I'm wanting to track activity electronically and we'll post it,
or link to it, from the ILL page on the Library's webpage.
I've looked at google.map, where we can set balloons on the geographic
sites. I've looked at another system where you can input zip codes which
display on a map. It's drawback is if we want free use, commercial
advertising is included.
Another suggestions for free software or systems that would visually
depict locations?
Thanks,
Paul
