We use:
Dear [Name],
You requested the following two articles:
1. author [title]
2. author [title]
both in journal, volume, number, year.
Copyright restrictions do not allow us to request two articles from the same periodical issue for one patron, without paying copyright fees to the publisher of the journal. If you wish to pay $cost for the extra article, please let me know. Otherwise, please let me know which of these two articles you need most and would like us to request. Thanks.
(Or, I try to borrow the issue.)
Ed.

Does anyone have a standard message that they send to the patron when this comes up? If so, I would love to steal it from you.
Thank you,

Hello Ed,
The restriction to one article per issue has nothing to do with the CONTU guidelines (CCL/CCG) and therefore date is irrelevant, until the item becomes public domain. The exemption that permits ILL (section 108 of the code) states that it only applies to "no more than one article or other contribution to a copyrighted collection or periodical issue". (http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html#108)
Best,
Ursula

I'm trying to refresh my memory - we have a student who wants two articles from a single issue of a journal published in 1995 (CCL). Is that cause for copyright? I would say no, as long as we stay under five for this year of the journal, as a rough idea. What do other people do? Thanks,

I need to ship to Canada. I have only done this once before and remember there are certain things that need to go on the form so it won't be held up in customs. Can anyone help refresh my memory?
Thanks, Kathy
