My impression is that if the library says no to a request, it does go to the next different lender, but if they just let it age, it goes to them again - is that right? Ed.

Subject: [ILL-L] Monday Morning conundrum
Happy Presidents Day!
OK, I came across something this morning that I haven't before, and I
don't understand it. It's probably something obvious & I'm just really
unobservant.
I have always assumed that an enter-my-symbol twice library only has
to respond to a request once, right? So, if VAK as an EMST library
says "no" to a request, the request goes to the next library in the
string. It doesn't go back to VAK again because we are listed twice,
does it?!
We requested something from a library whose symbol we entered 5 times.
After 30 days, the request came up "expired." I noticed the library had
responded "unspecified" at 6 day intervals until the request expired
after 30 days. The request never reached the 5th repetition of the
symbol.
I don't understand why the request didn't just come back "unfilled"
after the library responded the first time in the string.
Am I a complete doofus and this is a normal state of affairs? If so I
swear I never noticed before....! It seems awfully inefficient!
Thanks!
