Why do you feel you need a cart? Can't you use campus mail delivery for
this. This is what we do.
We started this about 10 years ago when the main ILL office was moved
across campus to our Sciences Library because there was more room. At
first we had a little cart and a staff member would walk the material
back and forth but that wasn't very effective especially in bad weather.
Our mail room staff said they would pick up and deliver the material
for the main library and move things back and forth in the library truck
along with other library mail. Two years ago the main ILL office was
moved back the the main library, the Rock, but the mail room staff still
takes the ILL stuff back and forth. There's not so many books being
moved because most of our students and faculty want to pick up their
books at the Rock. Sciences mainly deals with articles, which are
received electronically and posted electronically.
We use ILLIAD so for notifications we take the items destined for the
Sciences are taken out of the "Awaiting customer contact" and put in a
queue "Sciences pick up" or in the case of articles that patrons want to
pick up at the Rock they go into a queue "For Rock pick up". The ILL
staff at Sciences put the books on the hold shelf and do the
notifications as does the staff(i.e. me) at the Rock.
Returned books are handled at whatever library the patron returns them
to so we don't send those books back and forth.
