[ILL-L] FW: Question: Campus Delivery via golf cart?

Hi David - we use a golf cart for our campus deliveries, be they ILL or
Document delivery items. We have our 2nd cart now and it's street legal
and gasoline powered, our first was battery powered and had to be
charged every 4-5 days. The issues you mention re: driver protection
and cargo protection are very important, as you realize once you embark
on this delivery method. A key is to find a cart with heavy duty,
zippered plastic panels that you can leave closed and attached except
for your driver's seat or roll up on those wonderful days when it's OK
to catch the breeze. Securing your materials is another question all
together. We have not had too much experience with doing so because our
volume hasn't required it but we do have a very sturdy, lockable plastic
bin that fits in the rear seat of our cart. The materials travel in the
cart and when the driver is "away" from the cart, the bin is locked so
there is little temptation to remove materials. We're a little more
concern that someone may want to "borrow" the cart...
Anyway, our golf cart manufacturer is Club Car and since we live in the
land of lots of golf plantations, we have a ready supply to choose from
We buy them used and the one we have cost around $3,500 dollars.
I'll be happy to get you more info if you need and I will take a picture
of it and send it if you want.
Best,
Madeleine
