[ILL-L] RE: lending book straps not needed?

I always put my book strap on the materials that go out to my library's
patrons.
Here's why:
1. I have a very poor opinion of MY OWN ability to remember things. The
ILL book strap I made in MS Word has my college insignia at the top to
gently remind my patrons where the checked out the book (my area has
another large college, plus the public libraries).
2. I give the patrons three weeks use, maximum. Based on experience,
I've noticed attention spans last about this long. Some of the libraries
I borrow from have longer lending periods. If patron wants to renew
(within that period), fine. But they don't need to know a book "due" in
February doesn't have to go back until June. This is a recipe for a
lost book.
I don't put a book strap on materials I lend out to other libraries
because I figure everyone has their own system. But because I can't
send the material without something, I always include the paperwork and
a return label.
