See - I had always assumed for a while that the borrowing library always
would (or at least would have something on there to cover up the "real
due date" with the date they'll give their patrons. But we get tons of
books back where the lending library had just written their own
information on our lending book strap (and stuck their barcode on it,
etc) which always makes me wonder how well that can work for them - as
they're not writing their own closer due date on the strap... Just seems
kind of odd to me... IF I hadn't seen the proof that many libraries are
NOT adding a borrowing book strap - I'd completely agree with you - why
should we keep making the lending ones? (And yes - most of the books we
get from other libraries do not have bookstraps - if they have anything
it is a sticker only).

PS - and does anyone know why OCLC didn't add a function to make
borrowing bookstraps? Considering the lending ones have to have the
date written in on them by hand anyway - they could do the same for the
borrowing ones - yes we might be covering up an almost identical one if
the lending library used the OCLC bookstraps, but at least we'd have a
blank one to write in our due date on.

Subject: lending book straps not needed?

I notice that maybe half of the books we borrow don't have lending book
straps, we add a borrowing book strap to all books. Our books are well
stamped and identifiable, and when we lend them I assume the borrowing
library adds a borrowing book strap with the due date. Any reasons to
continue using lending book straps? Thanks, Ed.
