What will work best and be cost effective for your library depends a lot on
your request volume and what features you want/need in an ILL management
system. The major possibilities I know of are:
. OCLC ILLiad (http://www.oclc.org/illiad/default.htm), which
includes its own electronic document scanning and delivery software, Odyssey
. Clio and ClioAdvanced (http://cliosoftware.com/public/)--the
latter would be required, plus Ariel
(http://www4.infotrieve.com/products_services/ariel.asp), to come close to
providing the full functionality of either ILLiad or Relais
. Relais (http://www.relais-intl.com/relais/home/index.htm), which
also incorporates electronic scanning & delivery software
We moved from Clio (basic) to ILLiad in 2000/01 and couldn't be happier.
ILLiad's price tag does look big at first, but it's truly a comprehensive
ILL management system which can quickly pay for itself in staff and other
savings. That's definitely what happened here. We lost a staff member
during ILLiad implementation and did not have to fill that position or
request additional staffing later, despite a 70% increase in borrowing
requests and 25% increase in lending requests since 2001. In addition, our
turnaround time for both borrowing and lending has also improved
dramatically. Bottom line: we're doing a LOT more, a lot faster and better
(e.g., users LOVE getting their articles electronically) with the same
number of staff we had seven years ago.
I can't say what might have happened here with ClioAdvanced (plus Ariel) or
Relais, but we have no question about the value of our "investment" in
ILLiad.
Good luck in your search for an ILL management system!

Subject: [ILL-L] ILL tracking system
Hi, I'm new to the listserv and ILL in general. I'm trying to find an
ILL tracking system that keeps up with requests and due dates, including
renewal requests and new due dates. Electronic delivery and automated
billing would be nice as well. Being new to this, I feel like I'm
spending way too much time going from database to database, trying to
keep up with these things. I tried to look through the listserv
archive, but couldn't find a keyword search. I would very much
appreciate any help this lis
I've dug around and found that ILLiad is the standard option, but I'm
sure my director would appreciate me trying to find a cheaper option.
Do you all know if there are any open source/freeware options?
Any options cheaper than ILLiad?
Is ILLiad all it's cracked up to be?
Thank you so much for your help.
