Ariel 4.1.1 supports scanning in B&W, color, and grayscale, and will 
send & receive any of these via Ariel FTP and Ariel email, and send 
to patrons using patron delivery email. As best as I recall, so does 
3.4. Again, as best as I recall, versions prior to 3.4 did not. Which 
version are you using?
