[ILL-L] Ariel and Grayscale

Am I missing something?
 
I know Ariel does not send in grayscale, but sometimes it seems like it
does!  I thought it also would not send in color, but then sometimes it
does!  
 
IE: This morning I had a few frantic emails from my student worker who
could not get ariel documents that came in to send to our patron.  I
figured out that this was because they arrived in grayscale.  I tried to
send another document in grayscale to me, but it worked.  
 
I'm wondering if ariel will send grayscale from computer to computer,
but not attached to an email?
 
Is Ariel just quirky or is there a method to this seeming madness?
 
Maybe I just need another cup of coffee!
