[ILL-L] RE: [ILLIAD-L] How to handle recreational borrowing???

I suspect that by "recreational" most of us mean rather the purpose for
which the material is borrowed, not the content of the material. We're
all familiar w/ people doing research in the area of popular culture,
and I don't think any of us would cancel requests for such research. The
real point is whether the borrowing fits the mandate of the institution.
Our mandate is to support university-related research, so if the
material is not indended for that purpose, we feel free to cancel the
requests when the volume or expense becomes burdensome. If we're in
doubt whether or not the material is for research, we add the note: If
this material is intended for research purposes, please so indicate and
resubmit your request. I think most of our patrons are honest, and we
trust their responses.
Bon weekend.
