I'm with the Post Office on this one -- it only takes one infected
staple puncture to understand this rule. I would say that at least
half of the stapled bags that we receive have points by the time they
get to us. Either the stapler wasn't big enough to start with or the
staples loosen up in the mail. I never handle a book package by the
ends-- the staple points can be hidden in the paper or the points can
come right through tape.
