Subject: [ILL-L] Using reusable canvas/nylon shipping bags

Hi everyone,

We have just ordered (and received...finally... yay!) our new ILL shipping bags. Ours will be for use through regular mail, as we don't use a courier. I know I have borrowed from some libraries using these, but not too many. I'm trying to set ours up with some policies and procedures, and I'm not quite sure what would be best.
My questions are basically:

1) Do I need to indicate that we would charge other libraries a fee if they failed to return our bag, or is this obvious? PLEASE INDICATE
2) Do I need to line the bags with an old padded envelope to increase shipping safety? UNSURE
3) Do other libraries need instructions regarding how to use the little plastic ties that go through the gromet and zipper, or is this obvious? YES
4) Is putting the mailing address on one side of an index card and our return address on the other side the best way to address the bags? Will other libraries figure out they just need to turn over the card to ship it back? WE WOULDN'T KNOW THIS

We're really excited about going more "green" and we want to make a nice smooth transition. Any info or feedback you have about reusable bags would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jenny
