Subject: [ILL-L] Need search of Chicago Tribune July 10-13, 1893
I have contacted Chicago Public Library on this but have not received a
response.
Is there anyone out there who has the Tribune on microfilm or the access
to the online Chicago Tribune Archive who would search for a possible
article for us? We are looking for an article about Dr. Daniel Hale
Williams, an African American physician who performed open-heart surgery
to repair a man's pericardium on July 10, 1893. This happened in
Chicago. We think the surgery took place in Provident Hospital but it
may have been in St. Lukes. We need copies of any Chicago Tribune
articles referring to this historic surgery. We would be happy just to
have a citation if a Tribune article exists. It was World's Fair time
for Chicago, so they may not have noticed this medical milestone.
