The easiest way to get around the brackets is to copy the list into
notepad/word or some simple program and then replace {} with nothing.
You'll be left with a list that can be pasted into the OCLC custom
holdings groups.  If that is the problem with the brackets.

Hi Janice,

 

Lloyd Peterson created a list of LVIS libraries that loaned AV without
charge to any library without restrictions. I took over the list after
his death in February 2007.

 

In the third update (March 2008), I added non-LVIS libraries that stated
that they never charged loan fees to any library. As LVIS membership
seemed to be an important issue for some folks, I identified with
non-LVIS in brackets, so those symbols could be ignored by those wanting
only LVIS libraries. 

 

I had tried using underlining to identify non-LVIS libraries, but the
format of ShareILL didn't allow underlining.

 

 

I have a huge spreadsheet of currently 1400 libraries that loan some
something in av to some or more libraries. It is my hope that that will
replace Lloyd's list, so that libraries can determine their own lists,
free or not. That list wasn't completed this summer - I still need to
check CA, IL, MI, OH, NY, NJ and PA libraries.

 

With school starting next Monday, August 18th, I'm not likely have time
to work on the next list update until probably December. I'm hoping that
we won't match last fall's 52% increase in borrowing ILL requests.

 

There are a number of LVIS libraries such as LHA that charge those
libraries that charge. These folks aren't on Lloyd's free list. I had
considered making an addendum list of these libraries, but felt I needed
to stay basic with the list. 

 

 

You raised a good point. I'll try to check around before I submit
another update.

I have just completed my fourth update to Lloyd's list, a list of OCLC
ILL libraries that loan AV free of charge to other U.S. libraries
without major restrictions.

It has 821 libraries listed - ironically, my library (LHA) is not
listed, for while we loan to other libraries any AV that we loan to our
library users, we charge libraries that would charge us.

 

The last update was in March 2008 and had 544 OCLC libraries listed.
Since then I have checked OCLC ILL Policy Directory for most states and
contacted a number of libraries that did not have AV lending stated or
prohibited. 

 

About 12 libraries were removed because of cost or additional
restrictions for ILL.

 

I will be off most listservs starting August 14th, as I will be away for
a week or two, so please contact me directly with any corrections,
additions, etc.
