[ILL-L] RE: Aged to next lender and duplication

We don't use ILLIAD or Clio so I can't answer to any disconnect problems with those systems. However, I suggest contacting the library directly. Asking about their update process will sometimes reveal lack of training. I've found some libraries, if they're using WCRS and updating one record at a time, believe they've updated when the status changes to "Shipped". Even though the request reappears, allowing libraries to input a call number, lender notes, etc. they don't realize that they must click on Update again, to officially update the record.

If calling the library doesn't help, or you're uncomfortable doing so, consider contacting your OCLC Regional Network and inform them of the problems you're having, and ask them to contact the library if you're all in the same network, or if not, they can contact the offending library's network.

Subject: Aged to next lender and duplication

We are seeing more and more of this: items shipped to us by libraries that allowed a request to the next lender. We then end up with duplicate copies --- wasted staff time and postage at both ends.

There are some libraries which we notice follow this pattern with frequency. Others are intermittent. Should I bring it to the attention of the libraries which allow the aging and then ship anyway? Or is this due to some disconnect between ILLiad or Clio and WorldCat that they can't help? (We do not use ILLiad or Clio here.)

Thanks, all! :)
