Hello Everyone,
This is directed towards institutions participating in the OCLC Reciprocal
Faculty Borrowing Program, current membership listed at:
http://www.oclc.org/membership/advisorycommittees/profile8.htm (although
there is a GAC policies directory that may be more up-to-date)
I apologize if this doesn’t apply, but I would like to exercise a group
recall to better understand procedures of this program. This was developed
by the Research Libraries Advisory Committee of OCLC, and basically allows
faculty at RFBP institutions borrowing privileges and on-site access to the
collections of other participating academic research libraries. (At least
that is what the OCLC glossary of resource sharing says).
Now, I have seen a couple of great explanations of the program, see links
below, but I haven’t found a copy of the OCLC publication no. 46a. Anyone
have a copy?
http://ucblibraries.colorado.edu/circulation/patrons/rfbp.htm
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/services/borrower/rfbp.html
Also not found is the borrowing cards for the faculty to carry to the
institution they want to borrow from – unfortunately, it isn’t enough to
have the home institution’s ID card (sigh). While I couldn’t find our
cards, in calling around to other libraries, it seems likely the program
and cards are rarely used, so much so, that even one institution that
required it of our faculty member didn’t know what the card even looked
like. So this program may be close to obsolete, unless we do a group
recall…
So I wanted to ask those participating in the program, got any cards you
can share with me? Better yet, scan it in and send the URL to the listserv.
Second, I have asked that OCLC put a sample and template up on their
website: http://www.oclc.org/membership/advisorycommittees/profile8.htm to
help everyone identify what to look for, and how to create new ones. I am
very tempted to create a fun one in absence of the original.
I appreciate everyone’s assistance, best wishes,
Cyril
