[ILL-L] Books checked out

Skidmore College operates with the understanding that ILL will attempt
to get items that are not available for use.  If I think that a recall
wouldn't result in the immediate return of the book that was needed, I
would certainly request it via ILL.  A book also could be damaged or
lost prior to its return and that is just another justification for
placing the request.  
 
I am aware that many institutions and libraries will not request
anything that they hold, no matter the circumstances.

What do you do when a student wants a book that is checked out for a
month?  Can one request this book on interlibrary loan?
