I thought that maybe some of you would be interested in finding out 
what happened when I shared the information from your responses with my 
bosses.

They were so impressed by your answers that they agreed to immediately 
start paying charges for faculty, staff, and graduate students up to 
$20. And whenever an item fits our collection development policy, we 
will try to add returnables to our collection rather than borrowing 
them.

If I had suspected that an appeal to the listserv would be so 
effective, I would have asked this question years earlier! Although I 
have sent individual thank-yous out, I want to thank everyone who 
responded once more. Seeing the overwhelming evidence from so many of 
you that paying for ILLs is what most institutions do convinced them in 
a way that years of my saying so (based on my knowledge of 14 years of 
participating on this list) failed to do.
