[ILL-L] duplicate requests

We don't have a management system so we rely on:

1) Looking through the review fille each morning for anything that looks like we've seen it before. This is imperfect, but works better if the same person does it daily. Then we do a title search in active requests, and, now that we have it, a title search in closed requests. The closed requests are great for detecting items that should be considered for purchase, but don't let us know if its the same patron requesting them.

2) After the request has been sent, the pages discover duplicates when filing the paperwork.

The long-gone Western Library Network ILL System detected duplicated requests and relayed the message to me to either continue with the request at that time or to cancel the request and in most cases, the requests were duplicates and I could avert the problems and the cost of duplicates. I haven't yet found a way with WCRS until the request is already made. There is that rare occasion when I remember a title so well that I detect it. I wish OCLC could re-invent that wheel or perhaps they have and I don't know about it.
