>> Dear Colleagues,

>>

>> We are considering an on-campus document delivery pilot and I was
hoping

>> those of you who are providing document delivery could answer a few

>> questions. I'll be happy to summarize the replies and post results.

>> Thanks in advance for your help.

>>

>> Do you provide Document Delivery Service to your On-Campus patrons
(i.e.

>> not Distance Ed.?)Yes, for faculty and graduate students

>> Does your Document Delivery include loan materials from your
circulating

>> collections? (i.e. books pulled for delivery to patron.)yes it does

>> Who is eligible to use your Document Delivery service? (e.g. faculty,

>> grad students, etc.)Faculty and graduate students

>> Which groups use it the most? (faculty, staff, etc.)Both our faculty
and graduate

Students are heavy users. This academic year 604 faculty and 642 grad
students have place requests

>> Which department does the Document Delivery processing and delivery
in

>> your library? (ILL, Circ, DD)The bulk of this work is done by a staff
person from circ assigned

To document delivery duties (pulling items, scanning, checkout/in,
actually delivering physical items,

And delivering electronic items via email. The ILL borrower identifies
the initial requests and places

Those in the document delivery queue for processing.

>> If ILL staff do the DD, please explain the basic workflow. (e.g.

>> borrowing, lending, combination, separate DD staff?)See above

>> How many DD requests do you receive and fill in a year (or term or
month

>> - please specify)? To date, 604 (faculty)and 642 (grad students)and
89 (staff) for a total of

1,335 requests, give or take a few.

>> How successful is your DD on-campus service? I would have to say it's
popular and successful and getting

More so each day.

>> Did you add staff (students and/or FTEs) to meet increased demands?
Our library made a commitment several years ago to a part time position
who does DD and also a student to help with this and It's been a good
investment.

>> Did you add "resources" (scanners, ILL management software, increased

>> postage budget)We purchased a new scanner and bought a golf cart but
were already using ILLiad-our postage budget has not been Radically
affected by DD as we either physically deliver an item or use our
intercampus mail.

>> What is your "request received to item delivered" turnaround time?
According to ILLiad's stats an average of

3 days but most requests received are filled and delivered within 48
hours.

>> If you deliver loan items to on-campus patrons, how do you
"transport"

>> them? (campus mail, student couriers, etc.)We use a golf cart or
walking transport, depending on the number of requests. We use campus
mail for our two branch libraries.

>> Do you charge? If yes, how much?We do not charge

>> Did you start with a pilot project? If so, what assessment tools did

>> you use at the end of the pilot to evaluate the program? We did start
with a pilot project and our assessment tools were number of requests
and feedback from participants. Our document delivery program is
described in a forth coming article in the Journal of Access Services to
be published this year.
