[ILL-L] Borrowing of materials and Sensitizing/Desensitizing

Hello,

No, we don't desensitize nor sensitize other libraries' books
through ILL.

We do instruct new users to hand the book(s) to the Information
attendant

before exiting or re-entering the library. I've never heard complaints
from our

users.

I feel this is a unnecessary processing step for us and not something
that a

lending library appreciates.

Good afternoon,

My name is Dina Carmy and I am at The College of New Jersey. I am
researching for a colleague the following question: Does your
circulation department(or department that patrons pick up ILL
books)desensitize and or sensitize the books that are lent to patrons
that are borrowed from other institutions? Since the materials are not
ours and another lending library's, I am thinking that we should not
touch the books at all.

Our Circ dept desensitizes (they check out all the ILL stuff), because
we don't have the staff time to walk the patrons over to the security
gate and hand them over. But we also re-sensitize them when we pick
them up at Circ (which we didn't used to do, but started after several
libraries mentioned it might be a good idea).

I would appreciate all responses.

Thank you!
