[ILL-L] Huzzah!

Since you are thinking through your processes, I wonder if you might collect
the payment when the student picks up the item, rather than having to get it
before the item is requested. That works very well for us (a small academic
library). They pay the charge when they pick up an item, and I have very
few patrons who do not pick up their ILL's. In the past year, we only had to
absorb the cost for a couple of ILL's.

It would speed things up for you, I think. If I find that an item is not available
free, I do a quick check of the policies of a few libraries that own the item to
determine how much they charge. Then I email the student saying the item
is not available free, will cost between $10 and $15, and ask if they are
willing to pay that much. If they agree to pay, then I order it. If not, I'm
finished with it.
