Although I appreciate the desire to be thoughtful and thorough when unable to provide the material requested that lead many of you to use conditionals, I also appreciate the clean and quick process that reasons for no allows.

We do not feel we need to be informed that an item is non-circulating but copying is an option. As a well trained and experienced ILL staffers, we know that copying is an alternative to a loan and that most likely there are several libraries that will be able to provide the copy service. If we have asked for a loan it is because the patron wants to see the book.

There are only a few cases in which neither loan nor copy is possible, and that would be an appropriate and appreciated use of the conditional.

I have longed for more "reasons for no" since inception - one for "don't
lend AV" and one for "too new", these are the bulk of our requests it
seems. We conditional people now for the new and non-circ-but-will-copy
things, but it sure would be easier to do them with the rest of the no's.
Delection by pub date would be a dream!

BTW, why do youyou think things slip through deflection once in a while?
