[ILL-L] Lending New Books

JPL goes by publishing date for simplicity's sake. We don't lend
anything published in the current year. Often, we'll get requests for
books that are on order and the record pops into our database before we
physically have the book. I wish deflection had been in place a long
time ago. We've had a lot of "Ya gotta be kidding me!" moments here as
we received requests for wildly popular books like the Harry Potter
series well before they were released.
In January, the floodgates go open and we're fair game for the previous
year's books. You'd think our fill rate would be through the roof that
month but the previous year's books are still so popular with our
customers that it's not our highest fill month. Our director was here
yesterday and asked us what our highest fill rate month is and it
changes every year. But we know that in January we will get the highest
volume of requests.

PCP lends new books. Feel free to put us on your list. I wonder how
people who do not lend new books determine if a book is new; is there a
flag in their circ system or do they look at the pub date (or
acquisition date) of every book they might lend.
I know I will not be using this list because I am not going to look at
the publication date of a book before I send off a lending request.
