Use IFM and Save $$$
OCLC can help you save $60* on average for each ILL transaction you make. How? By letting OCLC do the paperwork for you, whenever you have ILL bills and payments from other ILL Fee Management participants. You save money, your staff saves time and everyone can focus on accomplishing other library priorities.
We’re convinced that you’ll save money with ILL Fee Management. In fact, between July 2006 and June 2007, it has saved 2,685 libraries more than $54,206,100.
But don’t take our word for it. See for yourself.
Use the online <http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=0&l=25684&ctl=1A11D43:B84C92D442D4457C3A85875DB0563AE8> calculator < http://www.oclc.org/info/savings/> Your results show how much money OCLC ILL Fee Management can save for your library—without reducing the volume or scope of your ILL activity.
This is how it works.
Each time a lender enters “IFM” and an amount that is equal to or less than the amount in the borrow form, OCLC will reconcile the payment of library-to-library fees related to the ILL transaction.
Getting started is easy!
Just start entering “IFM” in the MAXCOST field of the ILL request form—there are no forms to complete. It’s automatic from there and OCLC does the rest.
Please contact your OCLC <http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=0&l=25684&ctl=154685E:B84C92D442D4457C3A85875DB0563AE8> regional service provider < http://www.oclc.org/contacts/regional/> for assistance in evaluating the potential savings that ILL Fee Management can bring to your library.
*The cost is $40-$80 US to write to reconcile each invoice, expense report, purchase order and postage ( <http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=0&l=25684&ctl=1A11D45:B84C92D442D4457C3A85875DB0563AE8> http://www.apastyle.org/faqs.html, as cited by Xign Corporation (2006). XignFAQ. Retrieved October 2, 2007, from <http://visit.oclc.org/t?r=896&c=0&l=25684&ctl=1A11D46:B84C92D442D4457C3A85875DB0563AE8> http://www.xign.com/comp_faq.html). This is an estimate, actual cost may vary depending on OCLC regional service provider.

Would someone supply an explanation or direct me to a resource that explains what the IFM really is and how it works?

Does anyone know offhand the administrative cost of using OCLC IFM? I thought it was nominal - thanks, Ed.

Maybe other libraries are keeping their CD's that come with the books
separate from the books. We keep everything together- we ordered the
plastic pockets to put the CD's in each book & we have CD labels on all
of our CD's & DVD's.

If the accompanying CD is included on the cataloging record that the ILL
request was made from, yes. If not, no. Sometimes there are cataloging
records with just the book and another with the book and the CD, and the
ILL request isn't made from the one that includes both.

I have an interloan grumble...
I just received a book that did not have the cd with it.
Now, I am assuming my patron is expecting the cd to accompany the book.
Do you think a library should 'conditional' a request if they can fill
the book, but the cd is lacking?
