[ILL-L] Fishing Expedition - any takers?

Ok -- I have one of THOSE requests (author=unknown, title=unknown, date=not
sure, etc.) and I've hit a dead end given the resources at my disposal. If
any patient and generous soul out there would be willing/able to lend a
hand, I would be most appreciative.

Here is the info I  am working with:

I have a patron who had some of his artwork reviewed/mentioned/discussed in
some periodical at some point it, he believes Summer of 1989 and he wants to
track down a copy of the article (having misplaced his).


   - The artwork covered was a part of the following exhibition: "1989
   "Artitudes", 7th International Art Competition, Art 54 Gallery, New York, NY
   "
   - This patron thinks that the article was in either the June, July, or
   August 1989 issue of The Art Newpaper. (Actually, he said it was in
   ArtNews - but thats not a newspaper, and he says the article was in a
   newspaper, so . . . .)  One further wrinkle: The  Art Newspaper (*
   ISSN:* 0960-6556) appears to have begun publication in 1990. The Preceeding
   title was "Journal of art", if I have my story straight.
   - The artist whose work is discussed in the article is named John Fu.
   - This article is purported to be ~half page in length.


And this about all I have to go on. My only idea would be to pull, and
thumb-through, the Jun,Jul, and Aug 1989 issues of  Journal of Art to see if
could find an article that meets the description above (failing that,
perhaps the Jun,Jul, and Aug 1990 issues of The Art Newpaper) but my library
does not own this and the online archives/indexing have not proven useful.
So if any kind soul out there thinks they might be able to help with this
fishing expedition, that would be wonderful. Or, if someone more familiar
with art periodicals has any sage searching tips, I would be open to that as
well. I'm a little embarrassed to even be asking, but this  request is not
going away, and I don't know where else to turn. So, help, thanks, sorry,
and I will appreciate any help that might be offered.
