[ILL-L] large Mail bags-canvas/nylon?

The Tampa Bay Library Consortium uses orange zipped nylon bags in 3
sizes for our statewide courier service. I don't know who they're using
now. You can contact them at deliver at tblc.org or phone them:
813.622.8252. I had the ordering information for the bags at one time
but that was lost in the move to the new building.

For our JPL intralibrary delivery we use fire-engine red zipped canvas
bags in 2 sizes. We got them from DEMCO. We use our own delivery guys.
We've been using these for 2 years now and out of over 1000 bought, one
is no longer in service because of the zipper.

I'd say both are equally durable. The zippers are the first thing to
go. Both nylon and canvas bags can be secured with a plastic tie-lock.
We don't do that here and haven't had any problem. If we used them for
mailing via the USPS, we would use the tie lock.

All materials are put in the bags as is- nekkid, if you prefer, though
many of our materials wear book jackets. It can get chilly in those air
conditioned vans and trucks.

Subject: [ILL-L] large Mail bags-canvas/nylon?

Hello all,
Our consortium Resource Sharing Task Group is considering a
pilot program for the use of large mailing bags to ship our intercampus
loans.
Is there a consortium or County/State Resource Center currently
using canvas or nylon mail bags for this purpose?
We are interested in what type of bag, how you secure them, how
you attach the address, and if you use USPS, UPS, DHL, or other service
or a combination of services? Of course, we are looking for the least
expensive bag that will last the longest and protect the books the best.
Also, are the books placed in the bags 'naked' or do you wrap
them with paper or plastic?
You can answer off list to my address below.

	Thank You all in advance!!
