It always puzzles me when I get a citation for a photocopy request- more
often it's a loan request-- that just says Florida Times-Union-that's
it- no date, no article title, nothing else. It happens al least once
every week. It makes me wonder if the loan requests are just coming
through Direct Request; is it possible that the photocopy requests are
coming through that way as well?

If a requested article is not found as cited, I typically will do a
quick check in:

1.SerialsSolutions

2. Jake <jake.openly.com> (although no longer maintained, it's still a
good, quick reference to determine what, if any, databases a particular
journal is indexed in.)

3. Google

4. latest edition of Ulrich's

Then I will conditional it to the requesting library, often suggesting
alternative OCLC records.

However, as a Borrower, I will go a bit more trouble for my patrons...If
the issue year is older, I will check the corresponding edition of
Katz's "Magazines for Libraries" to see where the journal was indexed
historically. (Granted, Katz isn't as exhaustive as Ulrich's, but the
older editions take up less room on my shelves *grin*)

If the article pre-dates Katz, I usually check Reader's Guide and/or
Poole's. If I can't find it after that, I typically give up and send it
back to the patron.

(All of this depends upon my workload, of course *grin*)

As far as incorrect citations within databases, I have found that the
database providers are very prompt at correcting errors when you report
them. (My experiences are with Thomson-Gale and EBSCO--YMMV with other
vendors)

PS It looks like MY Montgomery Co. has all of its copies of "Kaaterskill
Falls" on the shelf.

PPS Yes it's a *very* slow Saturday at the reference desk
