Subject: [ILL-L] tips on formal request
I'm putting together a formal proposal to our new Serials Librarian, requesting permission to loan select microforms.
Some of the rationale includes:
The McNeese State University theses on microfilm are second copies; the originals reside in special collections.
Our Louisiana newspaper microfilm holdings are not unique, so loaning them will not make the resource unavailable to researchers.
ERIC microfiche documents sometimes are more than 50 pages. We will copy much more than that for other libraries. If loan of ERIC fiche is permitted, we would continue to copy, not loan, ERIC documents of 50 pages or less.
If any microforms are lost or damaged, the borrowing library will be charged the cost of replacement (or remicrofilming in the case of the theses.)
Any other suggestions for rationale, or tips for proposal?
If successful, I'll let you know.
Paul
