Hello Timberland,
In response:
No, we do not offer patrons self-pickup or self check-out.
No I would not be uncomfortable with lending an item to a library which
has this policy. If this approach has worked for the borrowing library
then it's fine. Also, the borrowing library assumes responsibility for
the item regardless. Thanks for asking.

Subject: [ILL-L] Patron self-pickup and self-checkout of ILL items
Greetings, ILL colleagues:
This subject was discussed a few weeks ago on the list, but
I'd like to revisit it. Could you all please take a look at the
following quick & dirty survey below and send me your answers to the
questions? I've tried to make this as brief as possible as I know you're
all busy.
Thanks for your
help! Patrick Padovan @ UOJ (Timberland Regional Library ILL)
1. Does your library offer your patrons self-pickup and
self-checkout of their holds? (If "No," please skip to question 5.)
2. If you answered yes to question 1, does this include ILL
items?
3. If you answered yes to question 2, do you feel this has
been successful (ILL items checked out and returned successfully and on
time, etc)?
4. If you answered no to question 3, please explain
(Increased lost and missing items, or items not returned on time, etc).
5. As a lender, would you have concerns about lending
materials to a borrower library if you knew they would be putting the
material in a public self-pickup and self-checkout area for their
patrons?
