[ILL-L] borrowing current year materials

As far as for what we lend, our "new books" policy is actually anything
within 6 months of being cataloged here - which is why I figure
sometimes people start wondering why they got "Policy Problem" back from
us for something from 1999 for example - but it is a "new" book for us -
and the library wants to make sure our students have the first chance to
get it checked out... So if you get "Policy Problem" as a reason for no
from us and wonder why - that very well may be it...

We would consider the item published in the last 12 months (in this case
the new translation) to be ineligible.

Hopefully, our librarians would advise the patron of other editions that
ARE eligible for Interlibrary Loan and of our purchase options.

Our library's policy restricts borrowing and lending materials published
in
the last 12 months. For those of you with a similar policy, how do you
treat
a current translation of a previously published work? In this instance,
our
patron has requested a book published in English translation in 2007,
with
the orginal French publication in 1996. Technically it's not a "new"
book;
yet to the owning library of the translation it is indeed new. I'm not
quite
sure which way to go.

Many thanks, Susan
