[ILL-L] suggestion for Leap Day - February 29, 2008

At the recent ALA Annual Conference I attended an OCLC session regarding the
future of the Policies Directory.  All of your concerns were addressed.  I
can tell you that the Policies Directory will be moving into the WorldCat
Registry (http://worldcat.org/registry/institutions) in FY08 and that there
will be greater functionality.

I've been working on updating custom holdings groups this summer. As no
surprise, the OCLC policies directory is not overly helpful and I'm emailing
lots of libraries for clarification.

 

May I suggest some sort of concentrated push to get libraries to update
their OCLC policies directory updated? "This is the information that needs
to be in your NAD (sorry - old school ILLer here, and I had to throw that
in)"     "This is how you phrase it/word it/."

 

I don't know if the searching abilities in OCLC policies directory can be
improved. When I search for av lenders, I get a huge number of libraries
that specifically state on the initial general information screen that av is
not loaned.

 

 

May I propose to all/any ILL powers that be, to promote the updating of the
policies directory, and that February 29, 2008 be a day for a concentrated
effort to update pd.

 

I'd be willing to assist in whatever way I can.

 

 

Too many of us are having to spend the time that it takes to get more
complete information.
