LIBRARIAN II or III, HEAD, ACCESS SERVICES
UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA LIBRARY

Full-time, tenure track, general funds, available August 15, 2007.

Continuous Recruitment: Review of applications will begin July 16, 2007, and
will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities:  Under the general direction of the Public Services
Division Head, provides leadership and management of all functions of
circulation, book stacks, course reserve operations, Business Humanities and
Social Sciences current periodical stacks, Microform Reading Room, and
Interlibrary Services/Document Delivery; coordinates building security and
emergency preparedness and evacuation; plans, coordinates, develops,
interprets, and implements system-wide policies and procedures pertaining to
Access Services.  Maintains current knowledge of copyright law as it applies
to library resources. Participates as a member of the Library Departmental
Council and the Public Services Division Department Heads Group.  Access
Services consists of 16.5 FTE and approximately 65 student assistants.
Represents the Library in local, state, and national groups related to
access services.

Minimum Qualifications:  At rank of Librarian II: ALA accredited MLS or
international equivalent.  At rank of Librarian III: ALA accredited MLS or
international equivalent with at least three years of experience in
management of access services, and twenty-four post baccalaureate credits of
academic study.

Desired Qualifications:  

.	Strong customer service orientation.
.	Experience in managing circulation services and stacks management in
an academic library.
.	Experience in interlibrary loan and document delivery operations.
.	Experience with consortial borrowing and lending programs.
.	Experience working with an automated circulation system. 
.	Experience coordinating building security and emergency evacuation.
.	Experience with evaluation and assessment of services and programs.
.	Demonstrated mastery of technical skills and knowledge of
technologies for document requesting and delivery, and interest in
developing digital applications to serve users.
.	Demonstrated knowledge in planning, developing and implementing
policies, procedures, and services pertaining to access services.
.	Knowledge of course reserves operations in an academic library.
.	Ability to communicate logically, clearly and effectively in oral
and written form
.	Ability to work independently.
.	Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with
faculty, students, and staff.
.	Ability to provide other public services activities, such as
reference, instruction and consulting as appropriate.
.	Knowledge of copyright law as it applies to library resources.


Salary Range:  	Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Benefits:  Include vacation and sick leave accumulated at 14 hours per month
each, 13 paid holidays, choice of group medical insurance and state
retirement benefits, which are vested after 5 years of service.  Librarians
are appointed to Library Services as a unit of the University. Librarians
are represented by a faculty-wide, exclusive bargaining agent, the
University of Hawai'i Professional Assembly.

The Library:  The University of Hawai'i Library has a staff of 160 full-time
employees and a collection of 3.2 million volumes.  It is a member of ARL.
It uses OCLC and RLIN as bibliographic resources and Ex Libris Voyager as
its library management system.

The University:  The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa is the major research
campus of the University of Hawai'i system. It is a land, sea and space
grant institution with an enrollment of 20,000 students.  Doctorates are
granted in 53 fields.
