[ILL-L] pickup at Circulation desks?

Our library too has patrons pick up ILLs at the circulation desk, except in unusual circumstances (such as fragile books or books restricted to in-library use).  I shelve books alphabetically by patron's name, and we have a basket for articles, also alphabetical by patron.  Usually this works very well (with the occasional glitch such as the student worker who, I found, had been systematically removing the book bands marked "PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE BAND!!").

Hello-

I'm a very new Unit Head of the Interlibrary Loan department in a large university library. One thing I've been asked to look into is having pickup of ILL materials at the Circulation Desk (primarily because of their longer service hours - our ILL office is open Mon-Fri until 5 and Circ is open much later and on weekends; currently, patrons can make arrangements to pick up at Circ after hours but they may not always think or have time to make prior arrangements).

 

I have heard from the previous Unit Head that ILL pickup at the Circ Desk this is a fairly common practice and was just wondering if I could dip into the collective wisdom from this list. Do you have pickup at the Circ Desk? If so, where is the dropoff and do you have any problems with the model?  I'm sure this has been discussed before but when I looked through the archives of the list in the last few months I didn't find anything. 

 

Any input/advice would be most appreciated! Thank you-
