[ILL-L] Reasons for No -- Need a Better One for e-Books

We have some ebooks in our catalog that are free on the internet, if so we sent the link. To the ones we subscribe to, they can't access them because they aren't coming from our computers. For now we're deflecting e-book requests, since most of our e-books are from subscription, Ed.

Dear Chrissie,

I've been getting a lot of ILL requests for ebooks recently. We have a small NetLibrary ebook collection that isn't in our OPAC, so I usually look it up on OCLC and find out that it's an ebook record.

Usually I conditional the request and then send the requester the OCLC record of the print version for a possible "resend" of the request. I don't have large ILL workload, so it's not a huge imposition and I was in OCLC anyway while locating my ebook record.

I've been meaning to write to the list and ask how or if others lend ebooks on ILL. I do not know how to "lend" these via ILL without creating a NetLibrary account that I cannot control after the ILL period is over, and I am not even sure I can lend these via ILL legally. I don't have the licensing agreement to check.

Does anyone lend ebooks via ILL? If so, how?

Is there any way that OCLC could add another reason to the list of
possible reasons for saying no? We get a LOT of requests for electronic
books, and I personally would rather reflect that fact in our reasons,
than merely replying that it doesn't circulate. Are we (TOE -- Northeast
State Community College) the only ones who can't find what seems like an
appropriate response to these types of requests?

Thanks in advance!
