[ILL-L] ILL and Collection Development Question

ILL doesn't make the purchase recommendation at our library. In response to
requests by departmental liaisons, we report what's been requested via ILL
by our researchers in the department(s) specified for the time period
specified. I export data from ILLiad to an Excel spreadsheet and send it as
an email attachment. Based on the data we provide, the liaisons decide what
they're going to try to purchase for our collection. It's often not a
matter of how many times something has been requested, especially for books,
but the nature of an item relative to the scope of our collection. We also
attempt to purchase current imprints requested via ILL rather than borrowing
them. Hope this helps. - Margaret Ellingson

Subject: [ILL-L] ILL and Collection Development Question

Hi, ILL-ers,

I was recently asked to suggest items for our library to add to the
collection, based on our ILL statistics. I have not done this before, and I
would appreciate any suggestions or guidance my colleagues can offer.

The idea, I understand, is that I am supposed to go through and see how many
times a title has been borrowed in the last 6 months, and, based on the
number of requests recommend certain titles for purchase.

If your library uses this kind of information to make collection development
recommendations, I would love to know how many borrowing requests you would
use as a minimum for recommending purchase.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
