Subject: [ILL-L] Fees for lost materials

Hi all,

We're reconsidering our fees and policies for lost books here at UMK, and I'm trying to get a feel for what other libraries are doing. If everyone can reply to me directly (thompsoncym at umkc.edu), I will be more than happy to summarize responses and send them to the lists.

We'd like to know:

1. Do you charge a flat fee, or the cost of the individual title, for lost books? Flat fee - $55.00 ($40 for book, $10 processing, $5 overdue)

2. If a flat fee, how much? $55

3. Is part of this a processing fee? If so, how much? $10

4. Do you allow the libraries to send a replacement copy in lieu of a the lost book fee? Yes

5. If you allow replacement copies, do you charge a processing fee? If so, how much? No

6. About how many requests, borrowing and lending, do you process a year (so I can get an idea of the size of your operation)? 5,000

Thanks in advance!
