Agreed. We also have cases where we get hit CONSTANTLY by some LVIS
libraries, and we would actually borrow very few from them. The
reason? We go to our consortial lenders first - we fill about 56% of
our loans from other Cal State University Libraries, so LVIS
libraries are much further down in my custom holdings, but since we
fall higher in the alphabet (CHU), we get hit quite heavily by other
LVIS libraries.
It also depends on a library's collections. We are heavy in the
natural resources and nursing, so we tend to get a lot of requests
for those type of materials, but the libraries requesting may not
have as much music, art, and psychology stuff as we need.
I've moved LVIS up in my article custom holdings, so that's
helped. But there are a variety of reasons for why you might lend
way more than you borrow from a particular LVIS library.
It's the libraries that are constant abusers of our due dates (to tie
into another thread) that come to us over and over again that tweak
my beanie a bit.
