[ILL-L] Multiple Postings about OCLC Problems

It's kind of nice to be able to put the question out there on the list
if you're having trouble to see if others are having trouble also. At
that point, then the person could contact OCLC or whomever they need to
report the problem to. If you don't ask, you don't know. And the problem
could be only related to your library or institution.

I guess it all depends on how you define "mutual assistance with ILL
questions". I'd hate for people to hesitate asking a question (and
getting help or reassurance) because it might annoy someone else on the
listserv.

Anyway, I actually appreciate seeing notices of address changes here on
the listserv. I don't check the addresses on the workform every single
time, for libraries I've used before, so getting a notice on here about
it ensures that I'll change the address in my database.

Am I the only one who is tired of postings to this list when there are
problems with OCLC?

If I were unable to get into resource sharing or some other area, I
would notify OCLC so they could send out a notice to everyone and then
resolve the problem and let us know when it has been corrected. If you
don't report it to OCLC, nothing will happen..

Questions to this list with all the "me too" responses do nothing to
solve the problem and clutter inboxes.

I thought the purpose of the listserv was to provide mutual assistance
with interlibrary loan questions, not as a place to report OCLC
malfunctions.

Similarly, if your address changes or you a going to a nonsupplier
status [except in case of a sudden emergency] make these changes on
OCLC. I, for one, am not going to keep track of these posts to the
list. I check the policy directory or your workforn for all of that
information. So keep those up to date.
