[ILL-L] CCL & CCG

There are exclusions to the suggestion of five, for example, if you are
requesting an article which your library owns but can't get at the
moment (for example, that issue is at the bindery). Generally, the
exceptions don't apply, they mean your library has this journal and
issue, but just doesn't have it at the moment. Also, one can request
articles CCL for repairs to issues. But once you exceed the 5 limit
during a calendar year, you're supposed to sign in to the Copyright
Clearance Center to pay the royalties (or pay the publisher directly, I
guess), Ed.

Not to beat a dead horse (from my own previous questions about this
topic) - but this is what I was told to do - that CCG simply means that
you are conforming to the guidelines for the last 5 years
After all the "Do not count in Suggestion of Five" part is part of the
Copyright Compliance Guidelines - so if you are requesting articles that
are in the last five years, but that you don't have to count in the
suggestion of five, you are actually following the guidelines... In
other words, the suggestion of five is not the only part of the
guidelines - the exclusions to the suggestion of five is as well...
(did that make any sense - I feel like I'm talking in circles)

** PRIVATE **
Hi everyone!
This is what we do too--a blanket policy that ANY article ordered that
is less than 5 years old gets CCG whether we actually owe copyright or
not. Everything else is CCL. It's easy to remember and doesn't trigger
any lender hackles. :)

I can never remember which is which, so I have the following taped at
the top of my monitor:
-- Use CCL when requested material is older than five years.
-- Use CCG when requested material is five years old or less.
I'd bet the house that I got it from someone else's posting to this list
several years ago.
